Meditation for Ding Dongs [Day 6]

Day 6 of the 10-day Headspace meditation challenge

Not today, Satan!

Today was the first day of my work hiatus, and I expected to wake up instantly unburdened and relaxed. It didn’t go down like that.

Family drama errupted. Personal issues and anxiety attacked. Errands and chores loomed, probably because I’ve been piling them up to tackle during my downtime.

I rarely take time off from work. Being self-employed, not working is both mentally and financially stressful. But not as stressful as a nervous breakdown, so here we are.

Today was prickly.

Routine to the Rescue

Luckily, I now have a budding meditation routine. And, man, did I need that routine today.

Day 6

Headspace founder Andy Puddicombe led us through the usual scanning of the body, calming of the mind, and bringing the attention back once it wanders off, which it ALWAYS does. Same stuff, different day. But I’m learning that, if you keep doing it, you get better at it. And the 10 minutes really flew by. I did not want it to end.

He asked if we noticed any tension in the body. Yeah, Andy. I noticed tension.

In this TED video, Andy explains his meditation method. He asks you when was the last time you did nothing? Um, Neveruary 31st.
